What is
Body Lift?

Loose or hanging skin is a common concern for people after losing weight drastically. The skin takes significant time to adjust to the new body, often resulting in an uneven or irregular shape. Many other factors, such as sun damage, pregnancy, and aging, can also affect the skin elasticity in your buttocks, abdomen, and thighs.

If you’re suffering from the same issue, a body lift surgery is your true calling! At NexGen, our board-certified surgeon, Dr. Yamini, performs this surgery in your middle or lower abdomen to tighten the muscles and enhance your skin’s underlying tissues. This improves your overall body shape, helping you achieve the body of your dreams. Connect with us today to say hello to a confident life!

BENEFITS
  • Enhances body contour
  • Removes loose or hanging skin and tightens the underlying muscles
  • Eliminates additional, unattractive skin folds from the abdomen
  • Makes working out easier
  • Strengthens abdominal tissues in the wall

Treatment Options

Upper Body Lift

The upper body lift works for those with significant excess skin around their upper abdomen and back. This procedure targets the loose or hanging skin under the back, breasts, and arms. The surgeon typically makes an incision across the back and upper abdomen, extending to the midline. Then, they reach for the loose skin to remove it and tighten the remaining skin for a flatter look.

Lower Body Lift

The lower body lift is performed on those with excess skin around their lower abdomen, back, and flanks. This procedure is somewhat similar to abdominoplasty or tummy tuck, where the doctor makes an incision on the lower abdomen, extending it around the back to the midline. Then, they remove the excess skin and pull the remaining skin tight.

The procedure is also known as a belt lipectomy. The purpose of lower body lifts is to deflate the buttocks and make them flat.

Who is a
Good Candidate?

The ideal candidate for a body lift is anyone suffering from uneven body shape after a significant weight loss. The procedure doesn’t remove excess fat, so it’s not good for reducing fat content. The individual must be healthy with no underlying health issues. The best candidate for body lift surgery is the one who wants to:

  • Tighten loose or hanging in different body parts
  • Achieve a beautiful-looking body shape
  • Attain a nicely-contoured body with the right curves

Procedure Process
and Recovery

1

Assessment

Every procedure at NexGen Plastic Surgery starts with thoroughly assessing the patient’s health condition and aesthetic expectations. Dr. Yamini sits with every patient to develop the right treatment plan for their body’s requirements. We will guide you through the entire body lift procedure so that you go into the surgery with peace of mind.
2

Incision

The length of the incisions during the procedure depends on the location and amount of loose skin. Dr. Yamini aims to make the incisions as conspicuous as possible, so they keep hidden no matter what type of clothes you wear. The incision will be made close to the bikini line for the lower body lift. The cuts are made around the upper abdomen and back for the upper body lift.
3

Excess Skin Removal and Tightening

The incisions allow the surgeon to access the extra skin tissues around the buttock, waist, back, groin, abdomen, and thighs. They remove the fat deposits and hanging skin from these areas to tighten the muscles and tissues. Depending on your requirements, your doctor may perform liposuction to give you the desired contour.
Once done, the incisions are closed with deep sutures, tapes, or skin adhesives. Deep sutures are also applied within underlying tissues to support the new body shape and contour.
4

Post-Surgery Care

The difference after a body lift is visible right after the procedure, but the final results may take two years to develop. You will have to follow a post-surgery care plan after the process. It includes avoiding strenuous activities and heavy workouts for a few weeks. You will also have to take care of your bandages or dressings. If you’re experiencing discomfort, your doctor may prescribe medications to promote healing.
5

Recovery

The recovery period for a body lift surgery depends on the number of procedures performed alongside the body lift. Most patients at NexGen usually return to normal activity within 6 to 12 weeks.

      Procedure Process and Recovery

What is included in a body lift?

A body lift removes excess skin around the thighs, abdomen, buttocks, back, and arm after a significant weight loss or pregnancy. The lower body lift targets the lower abdomen, buttocks, and thighs, while the upper body lift contours the upper abdomen, arm, and back. Your surgeon may also perform other procedures alongside the body lift.

Do you lose weight after a body lift?

Body lift isn’t a weight loss procedure as it doesn’t remove fat tissues. Instead, it focuses on eliminating excess skin from different parts of the patient’s body. However, you may experience a drop of a few pounds due to less hanging skin.

How long does a body lift last?

A body lift can last for many years or decades while maintaining a healthy lifestyle and proper care plan.

How painful is a body lift?

A body lift can be painful, like other plastic surgeries. At NexGen, Dr. Yamini uses local or general anesthesia based on every patient’s needs to lower the pain felt during the procedure.
