What is

Treatment Options

Suction-Assisted Liposuction (SAL)

In suction-assisted liposuction (SAL), the surgeon injects a tumescent fluid inside the patient. It consists of saline water, epinephrine, and lidocaine. This mixture swells the treatment area and makes it stiff. Then, the doctor makes a small incision and inserts the cannula through it to loosen the fat. The dislodged fat is then suctioned out through the vacuum.

Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction (UAL)

VASERlipo or VASER LipoSelection is a minimally-invasive treatment involving gentle ultrasound lasers to remove fat. The ultrasound waves loosen the fat deposits and remove them through the cannula during the procedure. UAL targets small and large areas of the body smoothly and gently.

Laser-Assisted Liposuction (LAL)

ProLipo is another minimally-invasive liposuction revision treatment that uses a small laser to target fat cells, loosen them, and remove them through suction. LAL causes less bruising and swelling in the patient and is usually performed around smaller areas like the neck.

Who is a
Good Candidate?

Liposuction revision is recommended for those unhappy with their previous liposuction procedure. You’re an ideal candidate if you follow most of the following:

  • You didn’t achieve the desired results from your first liposuction surgery.
  • Your liposuction results have changed due to pregnancy, aging, or weight gain.
  • You’re not taking any anti-inflammatory drugs before undergoing the revision surgery.

Procedure Process
and Recovery

1

Assessment

The liposuction revision surgery at NexGen starts with a thorough consultation with every patient. It helps the surgeon evaluate the individual's body composition, identify stubborn fat spots, and learn about aesthetic goals that they had with the first liposuction procedure. Dr. Yamini then develops a comprehensive treatment plan based on the assessment results. It’s recommended that patients go for liposuction revision at least four months after the first procedure.
2

Incisions

Uneven body contouring and composition are why many people undergo liposuction revision surgery. Dr. Yamini will make incisions based on the type of liposuction procedure suitable for you: SAL, UAL, or LAL. Since the procedure mainly involves inserting a cannula, the incisions are made inconspicuously for less visibility and scarring.
3

Fat Removal

Once the incision is made, the doctor inserts a cannula inside your body to loosen fat cells and remove them through a suctioning device. If your previous liposuction surgery didn’t remove enough fat tissues, the surgeon might perform fat grafting to even out your body composition. The incisions will be closed with sutures after adjusting the fat tissues in your body.
4

Post-Surgery Care

Your post-surgery care plan will remain the same as the previous liposuction procedure. You will experience swelling and bruising in the first two weeks of the surgery. To reduce them, your surgeon will recommend you wear special garments incorporated with foam on your surgical site. They will provide support to your grafted body parts for quick healing. Just stay in touch with your surgeon after the procedure to shorten your recovery period.
5

Recovery

The recovery period for liposuction revision usually takes weeks or months to show the real results. However, you’ll be able to stand and walk around just a few hours after surgery. Most patients at NexGen return to work a few days after the procedure.

FAQs

What is revision surgery after liposuction?

Liposuction revision surgery corrects the deformities, irregularities, or undesirable results from the initial liposuction procedure. You should wait at least six months after your first surgery before going for a revision.

Why can't lipo remove all fat?

Liposuction only removes a small amount of fat under the skin, not the tissues surrounding the organs. The procedure also includes a lot of risks, which is why the surgeon refrains from removing a bulk of fat from the patient’s body.

How do you fix uneven liposuction?

Uneven liposuction is fixed through revision surgery. The doctor identifies the stubborn fat spots and then performs liposuction on these areas again to even out your entire body proportion.

How long do you have to wait for a revision liposuction?

It’s recommended to wait at least six months before going for a revision. It will allow your body enough time to heal so swelling or bruising won’t interfere with the correction procedure.
