Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that enhances the size of your breasts.
Breast Augmentation Explained
Dr. Daniel Yamini

What is
Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation, more commonly known as breast enlargement or boob job, is a surgical procedure that enhances the size of your breasts. The surgeon makes an incision on your chest to allow the implant to sit correctly. It’s crucial for you to seek help from an experienced cosmetic surgeon who guides them through the entire surgery process.

At NexGen Plastic Surgery, we realize that breast augmentation is very personal, and the procedure varies from person to person. Our board-certified surgeon considers not only every person’s anatomy but also their psychological expectations from the surgery. We decide the location of your incision and implant based on the size, shape, and type of implant you need to achieve naturally beautiful breasts.

BENEFITS
  • Enhances the fullness of the breast with fluid or gel-filled sacs
  • Restores breast size and shape after weight loss or pregnancy
  • Restores the original symmetry of asymmetrical breasts
  • Decreases the volume of breasts after pregnancy or breastfeeding

Treatment Options

Breast Augmentation With Saline Implants

Saline implants consist of a salt and water solution that fills the breasts with additional volume. The mixture is injected into a teardrop or round-shaped silicone shell to achieve the desired breast size. The surgeon first places the silicone shell inside the pocket of your breast tissue and then fills it with the solution.

The process includes smaller incisions, which are generally less painful when an experienced doctor makes them. Since the saline solution is salt and water, it’s sterile, and you can quickly notice when it leaks from the implant. Many women prefer breast augmentation with saline implants to ensure firmer breasts that feel natural.

Breast Augmentation With Silicone Implants

Silicone implants are teardrop-shaped or round implants filled with a fat-like gel. The surgeon inserts these implants into the woman’s body as is so they make larger incisions than the saline implant procedure. Silicone implants also feel natural, like saline implants, but there is a major difference between both.

If silicone implants are ruptured, you may not notice the leak instantly. This is why regular check-ups are essential for every woman who underwent breast augmentation.

Breast Augmentation With Form-Stable Silicone Implants

Form-stable silicone implants are also known as “gummy bear implants,” an advanced form of breast augmentation surgery. Such implants consist of form-stable gel, giving a very natural feel to the touch. But in the case of a leak, the gel remains inside the implant shell forever.

Who is a
Good Candidate?

Every woman unsatisfied with their breasts’ shape, size, and symmetry can undergo breast augmentation surgery. However, pregnant or breastfeeding women and those with breast cancer or undergoing infection treatment shouldn’t consider breast augmentation. Excluding these exceptions, the ideal breast augmentation candidate is the one who wants to:

  • Increase or decrease the size of the breasts
  • Reconstruct their breasts after a mastectomy (a breast cancer surgery that removes the breasts entirely)
  • Make their breasts appear fuller, symmetrical, and tighter

and Recovery

1

Assessment

At NexGen, our professionals assess every patient’s condition and then use high-end, quality implants based on their expectations. We have different types available in various styles to suit every patient’s needs. In fact, we also have the resources to customize the size and shape of breast implants and the location of the incision for every patient.
Rest assured; our implants are all FDA-approved and safe. We aim to give you the best breast augmentation treatment with minimal scars.
2

Incisions

Depending on your preferences and requirements, our surgeon will opt for any of the three types of incisions: periareolar, transaxillary, and inframammary. The most popular is Periareolar Incision, in which the skin coloration difference in the areola is adequately concealed. Our surgeons blend the incisions into the areola’s surrounding tissues for both silicone and saline implants.
The transaxillary incision is specific to saline implants only. The incisions are made in the patient’s armpit, away from the breasts. The Inframammary Incision involves making incisions underside or near the breast.
3

Implant Placement

When making incisions, the surgeon makes the breast implant pockets under or over the pectoral muscles. These include submuscular or sub-glandular placement. In submuscular placement, the implant is placed underneath the muscle for full coverage. It gives a fuller, more natural breast appearance with minimal capsular contracture risk. The sub-glandular placement involves inserting the breast implants under the glandular breast tissue, right above the muscle.
4

Post-Surgery Care

Breast augmentation surgery takes about 2 hours, and the patient remains under anesthesia. After the procedure, your breasts may feel tender for a day or two. The doctor will recommend wearing surgical tape or a bra for multiple weeks to support your breasts. You may also need rest from work or daily life activities for one to two weeks.
5

Recovery

Most patients return to work after a week or so of breast augmentation surgery with minimal heavy lifting or physical activities. NexGen patients usually continue their routine within a few weeks of rest and mild exercise.
