What is
Breast Reduction?

Excessively large breasts can put a woman’s life into much distress. While they lead to multiple health issues, such as back and neck pain, they can also cause self-consciousness about one’s appearance. This emotional and physical discomfort continues unless the female undergoes breast reduction surgery.

At NexGen Plastic Surgery, Dr. Yamini performs a safe and sound breast reduction procedure or mammoplasty using advanced technology. The goal is to remove excess skin and tissues from the patient’s breasts to reduce their bust size and help them achieve the breasts of their dreams. Besides reducing your cup size, we address drooping breasts and disproportionate nipples to give you the best contour!

BENEFITS
  • Reduces the pressure on the patient’s back or neck to improve their lifestyle
  • Relieves pain when performing strenuous activities
  • Improves the symmetry of the breasts
  • Lowers unexpected attention
  • Helps get the perfect body shape

Treatment Options

Liposuction

A liposuction breast reduction minimizes the breast size by inserting a cannula in the patient’s body, loosening the fat through back-and-forth motion, and then suctioning the dislodged fat out through a syringe attached to the cannula. The surgeon doesn’t make long incisions or scars on the patient’s breasts. This procedure has a shorter recovery period and fewer risks.

Vertical Breast Reduction

This procedure involves the surgeon making a vertical incision around the patient’s areola—the dark part of the nipple. After that, they remove the excess breast tissues from the central and lower areas, and the remaining tissues are stitched back together. It reduces the bust size, helping the patient achieve their desired shape.

Inverted-T Pattern Breast Reduction

The inverted-T pattern breast reduction procedure corrects bilateral breast sagging. The surgeon makes a horizontal incision along the inframammary breast crease and a vertical incision from the areola to the breast’s bottom, making a T. The excess tissues are removed, and the remaining tissues are tightened through stitches.

Short-Scar or Lollipop Incision

The short-scare or lollipop incision is a breast reduction technique in which the surgeon makes vertical incisions around the areola down to the inframammary crease to make a lollipop shape. The excess tissues are removed, and the remaining are stitched back for the ideal breast size.

Who is a
Good Candidate?

Any woman or man unsatisfied with their breast size can undergo breast reduction surgeries. Hormonal imbalance and genetics play a significant role in the excessive development of breasts, and everyone can suffer from this condition regardless of gender. An ideal candidate for breast reduction is someone who:

  • Is healthy with no life-threatening issues but wants to change their overall breast appearance
  • Struggles in doing physical activities because of their breast size
  • Experiences severe back, neck, and shoulder pain due to the breast weight

Procedure Process
and Recovery

1

Assessment

Before starting a breast reduction procedure, the surgeon sits with the patient for a physical evaluation. They also ask about their aesthetic goals and how they want their breasts to appear. Then, they develop a treatment plan after a thorough assessment. You will be put under general or local anesthesia. The procedure takes 2 to 5 hours, depending on the implant or breast size.
2

Incisions

At NexGen, Dr. Yamini will make incisions around the breasts to access the extra tissues and skin. Two types of incisions are involved in the process—lollipop and keyhole. The lollipop incision is vertical, starting from around the areola and going down to the crease to make a lollipop shape. The keyhole incision is made above the areola to reposition the nipple and remove the skin from the lower breast.
3

Excess Tissue Removal and Repositioning

After making the incision, the surgeon repositions the nipples and reduces the areola size by removing the surrounding skin. Then, they remove the underlying breast tissue and lift and shape the remaining tissues. Patients with extremely heavy breasts may require nipple and areola reduction or repositioning.

Once the excess tissues are removed, the doctor closes the incisions to reshape the enlarged breasts into smaller ones. They use sutures, adhesives, or surgical tape to seal the cuts and provide support to the new breasts.

4

Post-Surgery Care

Your surgeon will give you a post-surgery care plan for quick recovery after the breast reduction procedure. It will include wearing an elastic bandage or supportive undergarment to reduce swelling and support the new breasts. The doctor will also give you medications to reduce infection risks and boost your recovery period.
5

Recovery

The recovery period for breast reduction surgery is around 2 to 6 weeks, depending on how well they follow the post-surgery care instructions. Just avoid strenuous activities and lifting heavy weights in your recovery period, take timely medications, and you will return to work earlier than unexpected.
