FACE PROCEDURE

Chin Implant

At NexGen, our board-certified surgeon, Dr. Yamini, uses his years of experience to perform chin implant surgery without external scarring.

What is
Chin Implant?

Some people are born with small or weak chins. While such chin structures cause no harm, they don’t make your face look well-defined or contoured. That’s why genioplasty or chin implant, or enhancement surgery is quite popular today. The procedure places an implant around the patient’s existing chin bone to enhance the shape of the chin, jawline, and neck. The result? A naturally beautiful, well-balanced facial symmetry.

At NexGen, our board-certified surgeon, Dr. Yamini, uses his years of experience to perform chin implant surgery without external scarring. The incisions are made inside the patient’s mouth to ensure zero visible scars. We may perform other cosmetic surgeries based on your chin structure to give you the iconic celebrity touch!

BENEFITS
  • Strengthens and shapes the chin in a better proportion
  • Enhances symmetry between facial features
  • Defines jawline and neck
  • Improves jowls
  • Reduces the appearance of a double chin

Treatment Options

Smooth or Non-porous Implants

Smooth or non-porous are typically made of silicone. They are easier to place within the chin area and are even easier to remove when needed. With these implants, the surgeon performs basic augmentation surgery.

Porous Implants

Porous implants include those made of Teflon, Medpor, or Gore-Tex. These implants have tiny pores or cavities that allow them to adhere to the chin tissue without shifting their position. However, due to this, removing them is relatively more challenging than non-porous implants.

Who is a
Good Candidate?

Any person with a weak or recessed chin can go for chin implant surgery. The procedure is performed regardless of gender. You just need to be healthy with no underlying medical conditions and shouldn’t be a smoker. The ideal candidate for this surgery is the one who wants to:

  • Enhance their overall facial harmony with a well-defined chin and jawline
  • Reduce the appearance of jowls and double chin
  • Give their neck an elegant shape

Procedure Process
and Recovery

1

Assessment

Dr. Yamini starts every cosmetic procedure with a detailed consultation with every patient. It allows every individual to share their concerns and expectations from the procedure with their surgeon. After a thorough assessment, Dr. Yamini develops a customized course of action for each patient to ensure effective chin implant results. It is an outpatient procedure performed under anesthesia for the patient’s comfort.
2

Incisions

The surgeon makes a small incision inside the patient’s mouth or under the chin to make space for the implant. They place it around the chin bone, so the cuts will be made around that area.
3

Placing the Implants

Chin implants are small devices molded into the size of the patient’s chin bone. The surgeon will choose the right size and contour of the implant for your chin to achieve the desired results.

Once decided, they will insert the implants into the incision and place them with the chin bone for a natural appearance. The incision is closed with sutures, and the entire chin is bandaged for safety.

4

Post-Surgery Care

After the surgery, you’ll likely visit your surgeon a week later to remove the stitches from your mouth. Your doctor will also give you a comprehensive post-surgery care plan, which you must follow for quick healing. It includes resting in bed 2 days after the procedure and avoiding strenuous activities or contact sports.

You will also be given pain medications and cold compresses to relieve discomfort. For the diet, you will only have liquids for up to 2 days post-surgery. You must sleep with your face up and head elevated for 2 weeks to manage swelling.

5

Recovery

The recovery period for chin implant surgery is relatively short. Most people resume their routine within a week after the procedure. Continuing strenuous activities and workouts may take up to 4 weeks, depending on your chin’s condition. The procedure results become visible within a month, with the final difference appearing in 3 months. Just follow your surgeon’s post-surgery guidelines for a quicker recovery.

FAQs

What is chin implant surgery?

A chin implant or augmentation surgery improves weak or recessed chins, making them more defined and prominent. The procedure involves inserting an implant around the patient’s existing chin bone to reshape their chin and jawline structures. The goal is to help the patient achieve their desired facial proportion.

Do chin implants look natural?

Chin implants only look and feel natural when an experienced plastic surgeon performs the procedure. A professional knows the right location to make the incision, implant placement, and closing stitches. So, make sure you seek help from an expert like Dr. Dan Yamini.

Is a chin implant painful?

Chin implant is relatively less painful than other cosmetic surgeries. It is performed under anesthesia, so you won’t feel any pain during the surgery. However, slight numbness, soreness, and discomfort can be felt afterward. Your surgeon will prescribe you pain medications to elevate these symptoms.

How long do chin implants last?

Chin implants usually last a lifetime, but they may vary depending on their type. The implants made from the patient’s bone or fat tissues are usually reabsorbed in the body after a specific time. It’s wise to inquire about the longevity of the implants from your surgeon before the procedure.
