Assessment

Incisions

Facial fat grafting is performed as a liposuction procedure. The surgeon identifies the areas on your body with sufficient fatty tissues and then makes incisions to insert the cannula into the desired locations. These areas are typically love handles, thighs, hips, or abdomen.

Harvesting and Re-inserting Fat

After making the incisions, the surgeon inserts the cannula in any of the areas to dislodge fat cells and harvest them. Once extracted, they process them in a centrifuge and place them into syringes to transfer them quickly into the face. When using injections, they won’t make any incisions around your face. The areas that require fat cells include lips, forehead, under-eye bags, cheeks, nostrils, nasolabial folds, etc. Once done, the incisions are closed with sutures.

Post-Surgery Care

Facial fat grafting isn’t invasive, but you may experience swelling after the procedure. After the procedure, your doctor will give you a post-surgery care plan to minimize swelling and bruising. You will be refrained from performing physical activities for 2 weeks. The surgeon will also provide you with medications to alleviate pain or discomfort.

Recovery

The recovery period after facial fat grafting varies from person to person, depending on how well you follow the post-surgery care plan. Most patients at NexGen return to work within a week and resume normal activities after 2 weeks. You won’t have to visit your surgeon for suture removal, but show up at post-surgery appointments.
