Assessment

Incisions

The surgeon will first administer anesthesia to keep you comfortable during the procedure. The location of the incision will depend on the type of rhinoplasty you need. If the doctor opts for closed rhinoplasty, the incisions will be made inside the nose. But if they choose the open procedure, the incision will be made on the columella. With these incisions, the surgeon accesses the skin covering the nasal bones and cartilage and raises it gently to restructure the nose.

Reshaping the Nose

To treat a large nose, the doctor removes the excess bone or cartilage to reduce the size. Sometimes, they may need to add cartilage grafts, usually taken from the partition between the two nostrils called the septum. Other times, they may take the cartilage from the rib or ear.
If you need septum correction, the doctor will straighten it and reduce the inside projections. Doing so will also enhance your breathing. After reshaping the nose, the nasal skin is redraped for the perfect contour, and the incisions are sealed.

Post-Surgery Care

You will feel discomfort, swelling, and bruising in the surgical area for up to six weeks. However, this period usually varies depending on the treated region of the nose. Rhinoplasty performed on the nose tip takes less time than nostril or bridge surgery. Your doctor will recommend you take pain medications for 10 days. Most NexGen patients also feel numb for a week after the surgery, typically at the nose tip. Applying sunscreen is really important after the procedure to prevent the surgical area from ultraviolet rays that interfere with the healing of the scars.

Recovery

The recovery period for most patients ranges between 4 to 6 weeks of rhinoplasty. After that, they gradually start resuming exercises and daily activities. You may not be able to see apparent nose job results instantly. Instead, wait 3 to 12 months or as your doctor guides.
