PROCEDURE FOR MEN

Otoplasty

At NexGen, we realize how important it is for a person to look and feel good simultaneously.

What is
Otoplasty?

Otoplasty or ear pinning is a surgical procedure that reshapes, resizes, and repositions the ear to boost an individual’s self-esteem. Protruding ears can bring your confidence down and hold you back when making important life decisions.

At NexGen, we realize how important it is for a person to look and feel good simultaneously. Our board-certified surgeon, Dr. Yamini, performs a safe otoplasty surgery to help people achieve perfect, natural-looking ears for an instant confidence boost. The surgery is performed on the patient’s auricle (the ear’s outer, visible part). We ensure that the procedure improves your quality of life with no visible scarring on your face.

BENEFITS
  • Treats any congenital ear deformity in patients with undeveloped ears
  • Reduces the ear size in patients with enlarged ears or macrotia
  • Makes protruding ears flatter by laying them against the head
  • Reshapes the ears for a normal outlook
  • Enhances overall personality and appearance

Otoplasty
Treatment Options

Ear Augmentation

Many people suffer from undeveloped outer ears that remain small even when they become adults. For these patients, we perform ear augmentation surgery to increase their ear size and make it look normal.

Ear Pinning

Ear pinning treats protruding ears by laying them flat against the head. The procedure aims to draw the ears near the head for a normal appearance. We recommend ear pinning to those patients who don’t like their ears sticking out from the sides of their heads.

Ear Reduction

The ear reduction technique treats deformities that lead to enlarged ears than normal. The condition is called macrotia. The procedure reduces the size of the ears to make them appear more defined, proportionate, and flatter.

Who is a
Good Candidate?

Any healthy person with no life-threatening medical issues can reshape, resize, or reposition their ears for a confident outlook. The candidate shouldn’t have any ear infections. It’s recommended for the surgeon to first assess the patient’s ears, discuss their aesthetic goals, and then go for otoplasty. The ideal candidate for otoplasty is the one who is:

  • Unhappy by the appearance of their ears
  • 5 years or older
  • Suffering from any sort of deformity due to injury, trauma, or birth defect

Procedure Process
and Recovery

1

Assessment

At NexGen, we perform otoplasty on adults and children suffering from protruding ears or any other form of ear deformity. Dr. Yamini first sits with every patient, asks about their aesthetic goals, analyzes their ear’s condition, and then chooses the correct type of surgery. This surgical procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure. The doctor will use anesthesia for the patient's comfort.
2

Incisions

Depending on your assessment results, the surgeon will mark the area on your ear that needs to be treated. Then, they make a small cut inside your ear folds or behind your ear to access the tissues that need manipulation.
3

Reshaping of Auricle

The doctor then treats the ear tissue causing the issue or deformity in your ear. They may reshape the cartilage or fold it to make it appear proportionate and normal-sized. The incisions are then closed with sutures and stitches.
4

Post-Surgery Care

Based on your requirements, Otoplasty takes 1 to 3 hours to complete. You will experience soreness, bruising, and numbness in the surgical area for many days. The doctor will apply a post-surgery dressing on your ears to keep them in place for multiple days. You will also be required to wear a protective headband. Other post-surgery care instructions include no swimming, activities, or sports with extensive physical contact for 6 weeks or more.
5

Recovery

Most patients at NexGen fully recover in 4 to 6 weeks after otoplasty surgery. However, this duration will vary depending on the nature of the procedure and the level of care. Follow all the post-surgery care instructions to shorten your recovery and return to your routine life with transformed ears!

FAQs

What is otoplasty?

Otoplasty is a cosmetic surgery that realigns, resizes, and reshapes the ear with permanent sutures. It is ideal for people with protruding, small, or enlarged ears. At NexGen, we treat all sorts of ear deformities to help you achieve the best-looking ears and facial structure.

What is the best age for otoplasty?

Osteoplasty can be performed on children and adults, starting from five and above. Younger patients have lower surgical risks and better chances of healing, which is why otoplasty is suggested for them. However, adults can also opt for this surgery whenever they feel low confidence due to their ears.

What are the risks of otoplasty?

When performed at NexGen, we use high-end technologies to ensure otoplasty includes no risks. However, like other cosmetic procedures, this procedure has some complications, such as excessive scarring in the treated area.

Is otoplasty really painful?

Otoplasty isn’t painful, but you may feel mild pain afterward. At NexGen, we use anesthesia before the otoplasty procedure to make you feel comfortable through the surgery. However, post-surgery discomfort and pain are inevitable. But they go away in a couple of weeks with proper ointments, medications, and care.
